Bloom

Special effects makeup artists and some fabricators making edible products use gelatin in the making of their appliances or props and prosthetic appliances. The number associated with the gelatin is called “bloom”; the higher the number, the stronger the gelatin is, or the higher tear resistance it has. Gelatin is a great product to use for all sorts of quick and different makeup effects. There are different recipes available but typically you can use glycerine, sorbitol, and a bit of zinc oxide to make a basic gelatin appliance. You can also add flocking or pigment powders to achieve a skin tone. The 150 gelatin is a standard bloom gelatin used in food manufacturing but can be used for some makeup effects as well.  If you check the rest of the special effects makeup section you’ll find the other items mentioned above so you can start experimenting and making your own gelatin appliances!
